Sensoji Temple Omamori

Founded in 645 AD in Tokyo's Asakusa district, Sensoji is the oldest temple in the city — legend holds that two fishermen pulled a statue of Kannon, the Buddhist goddess of mercy, from the Sumida River, and a temple grew up around it. Today it's known across Japan as Asakusa Kannon, marked by the giant red lantern of the Kaminarimon gate and the bustling Nakamise shopping street leading up to it.
